Sony working on next iteration of the PlayStation?

It may seem obvious considering that work generally begins on the next version of a console years before it is released, but it is nice to actually hear about it.  Although Sony has claimed that the PlayStation 3 has  ten years of life to it (can’t completely argue that), they have made mention that they are seeking the help from developers on their future console.

In a recent interview with Develop magazine , Shuhei Yoshida explains how they have learned from the past and plan on building superior tech for all developers to enjoy.  In fact, they actually plan on listening to developers.

“When Ken Kutaragi moved on and Kaz Harai became the president of SCE, the first thing Kaz said was, ‘get World Wide Studios in on hardware development’,” Yoshida said.

“So he wanted developers in meetings at the very beginning of concepting new hardware, and he demanded SCE people talk to us [developers].”

And when asked whether this change in philosophy will be applied to future PlayStation hardware, Yoshida replied: “Yes, we are undergoing many activities that we haven’t yet been talking about in public. Some future platform related activities.”
