Apple unveils the new iPhone at WWDC 2010

It is finally official after rumors and leaks for months and months now.  Steve Jobs has officially announced the new iPhone at WWDC (Apple Worldwide Developers Conference) today with plenty of details.  And it all looks fantastic.  I’ll give you the rundown of what to expect but if you want all the up to date information and every single detail, head over to engadget.com to check out all the stories and even their Live Blog which is being directly blogged from WWDC with the information as it comes.

So far we know that the iPhone 4 will retail for around $199 and will be available on June 24th.  There is a front and rear facing camera (the latter having a LED flash which was missing in previous iPhone units).  It uses an IPS display with an 800:1 contrast ratio at the same size of 3.5-inches.  Under it’s sleek and slim surface it boasts an A4 processor which is the same that runs the iPad and while you may think you are going to lose a ton of battery life, Apple has the fix with a slightly bigger battery (still not easily replaceable)  with a talk time of roughly 7 hours, 10 hours of WiFi browsing, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of video and 40 hours of music listening.  Quite impressive to say the least.

Did I mention it will also be running the highly anticipated OS 4?  Which is now called the iOS 4.  The new OS will launch officially on June 21 and is boasting 1,500 new features.  Some of the features are pretty relevant like the long overdue multitasking that has been missing, app folders and data detectors.  Bing, Yahoo, and Google will be the integrated search engines.

Oh, and the camera is 5 megapixels with the ability to do 720p HD video.  Really impressive as it seems Apple has listened to many of the complaints and problems that people disliked about the previous units and went well beyond to make the iPhone 4 a challenging opponent to all who attempt to take its crown.

Again, keep up with engadget.com to find out every spec of detail you could want.
