Ex-Infinity Ward leads move on to EA

If you haven’t kept up with news then you may not know that your favorite lead developers at Infinity Ward were fired by Activision in early March.  After the firings, lawsuits took place and words between the two have been heating up.  But we all knew it wouldn’t take long for the creators of Modern Warfare to find a new home.

This morning, Jason West and Vince Zampella announced their new development studio, Respawn Entertainment.  But surely it’s difficult to start your own studio without some support right?  Well they aren’t alone as they have teamed up with Electronic Arts to produce new and original titles.  Frank Gibeau of EA Games said, “This is the start of a great publishing partnership — one that I expect will develop blockbuster game franchises.  At EA, we’re honored to be their partners and to give them the support they need to hire a team and return to making incredible games.”  This new venture for will allow Respawn Entertainment to keep ownership of their titles, unlike the Modern Warfare franchise which seems to be lost to Activision.

Although the lawsuit still continues, it’s great to see that Jason West and Vincent Zampella will be back creating great games in a much better environment.  Maybe they can bring over some of their buddies from Infinity Ward?  It’s a sinking ship over there.
