Final Fantasy VII remake a possiblity

Okay, so we’re all tired of the rumors over the years about a remake of Final Fantasy VII.  However, this time it finally has a bit of credence to it.

At a Final Fantasy XIII launch party, Yoichi Wada (Square Enix CEO) finally admitted that there is a possibility – “Right now we don’t have a clear direction, but many fans have requested we remake Final Fantasy VII,” Wada said. “We’re going to explore the possibility – whether or not we’re going to do it, if we’re going to do it, and the platform.”

When it comes to the CEO at least acknowledging the idea, you can bet they are taking a serious look at it finally.

Final Fantasy VII is probably the most popular in the long series.  Since its release in 1997, FFVII has gained a huge fan base and spawned a series of games related to the world and its other characters.  There was also a CGI film in the form of Advent Children which acted as a kind of sequel to the game.  Even with all of that, fans of been loudly declaring their want for a remake of the original.

If they do decide to remake it, I hope it ends up on a home console and not a portable.  While that may be nice and all, I think it would be better received taking full advantage of a home console.  It’s still all speculation at this point, but at least it’s being mentioned from Square.
