General Motors shows off a cool upcoming HUD windshield

Wouldn’t it be cool if your car had that heads-up display on its windshield?  Sure, the idea has been thrown around for awhile now and very few are available.  However, GM is really trying to push the technology in their future line-up of vehicles.

“Let’s say you’re driving in fog, we could use the vehicle’s infrared cameras to identify where the edge of the road is and the lasers could ‘paint’ the edge of the road onto the windshield so the driver knows where the edge of the road is,” Seder said.

GM are toting this as the most advanced heads-up display seen so far.  It will include many infrared and visible cameras that will keep watch on your retinas and what’s in front of you.  The idea is to create an augmented reality when needed instead of just pop-up information.  If it’s really foggy and dark out, it could essentially outline the road for you or utilize night vision.  Hate when you can’t see those animals  on the side of the road just waiting to cross?  Well, this should also detect them.

You can read up about it here.  But in the meantime, check out the short video below that shows off the idea a bit.
