NHL 2k11 Has Its Cover Athlete

2k announced today that it would feature Ryan Kesler as their cover athlete for NHL 2k11.

Ryan Kesler plays for the Vancouver Canucks and was a big part of Team U.S.A’s win over Canada in the early rounds of the Olympics.  His empty net goal sealed a victory for the U.S in a highly entertaining match-up.

After winning the Silver medal, 2k contacted him about it.  Kesler stated, “I was pretty disheartened after we lost in the gold medal game, and to get the call the next day and to be asked if I wanted to be on the cover, it was a nice pick-me-up.  It’s always been a dream.”

There were a lot of heroes for team U.S during the Olympics including goaltender, Ryan Miller, who was awarded the MVP.  Interesting choice for 2k in choosing Ryan Kesler.

Last week 2k announced that it would only be developing the game for the Wii and taking a break from the PS3 and Xbox 360 for a year.  They plan to take that year to rework their whole game.

Hopefully 2k figures it out.  I’d like to see some good competition again.  Also, congrats to Ryan Kesler for making the cover!
