The Taxidermist – Afterthoughts

Quantic Dream has released its first DLC (Downloadable Content) for Heavy Rain.  They call it, The Heavy Rain Chronicles, and they are short episodes in which you get to play through.  After just having a play through of the first episode, I’d like to share some thoughts.

Episode 1 is entitled, The Taxidermist.  It follows Madison Paige as she is on the search for the origami killer.  Her search leads her to question a suspicious man who works in the art of taxidermy.  How does this flow with the rest of the game?

Quite well.

These chronicles are meant to give you insight on what other ventures the characters did throughout the game that we didn’t see.  They will also give you a bit more back story on the characters themselves – give them more depth.  It’s actually a really good idea.

I don’t really need to go into the details of the gameplay as it is the same as the main game.  Actually, most of everything is the same besides the scenario.  And that’s what this is, a different scenario.  What I enjoyed about it was that it kept that same intensity as the game.  I felt a very eerie feeling as I made my way through this episode.  Although it isn’t very long, there are multiple endings to it.  You do have the ability to act in different ways just as you would in the game.  Your choices, Your outcomes.

It’s really difficult for me to say too much.  I don’t want to spoil the experience for anyone.  Having thoroughly enjoyed Heavy Rain, I was curious as to what Quantic Dream would do with its DLC.  From my own experience, they are handling it quite well.  It won’t take you long to get through, but you will feel that same intensity as the main game.  I do recommend giving it a try.  It feels like they put their heart into it just as they have done with the game itself.  If you enjoyed Heavy Rain then don’t pass this up.   This is your story – go make it.
